The motivation for writing:
Why am I writing articles on manhood and fatherhood? More specifically, why am I writing to Christian men and Father’s, targeting men between the ages of 18-50? I am convinced that we are under attack, and our very core identity as men and fathers is being assaulted in many forms. I am 44 with 4 kids. This is the season of life I am in. I believe in the restoration of our true identity as men created in God’s image, for God’s glory, to fulfill our God-given purpose and mission.
I will do my best to be open and vulnerable in a raw, real, and hopefully, relevant way that inspires motivates, and encourages you. Hearts of Men will be a space for you as a man and a father to get away and feel understood as you read here. I hope that these articles and stories will be provoked and encourage you in many far-reaching ways. We all have a story to share, no matter how hard parts of that story are. Healing is found in vulnerability and openness, with no secrets to hide. I want to learn to live that way. Jesus came to give life abundantly.
“If you’ve got a camera, go to a war zone and tell a story.” Rhys Ifans
The battle for our hearts:
I am convinced that true manhood and fatherhood are under assault in more ways than we can imagine in our current culture. If you had a camera to capture images of authentic manhood in your life, what would you shoot? I would like to zoom in and focus our attention in these articles on the very purpose and reason we were created and exist. We as men are at war. We are born into a war zone. A spiritual battle is raging for our hearts, and our masculinity is being redefined disastrously right in front of our eyes. Let’s take it back!
Lost and Found:
Have you ever experienced the feeling of being lost? What was it like? Have you ever used a compass to find your way when you have been lost? A compass is designed to give you a reading for which direction you are headed in. I believe God’s Word, the Bible, is the compass to get us back to our original purpose and then take us to our ultimate destination. The difference between being lost or found in this culture can be discovered in how you might answer these questions. Who defines you? Who formed or created you? For what purpose were you created? It all started in the beginning. I will be writing from a belief that we are created by God, for God, with a glorious purpose. I want to be found, and I want you to be found. It all starts with admitting that we are lost and need that compass.
“So God created mankind in His image; in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27
